planetary boundaries
Many people are aware of the impacts of climate change as a result of global warming, and of the policies that attempt to limit global warming through the reduction in carbon emissions. But this is an oversimplification of the planetary crises that are impacting on the ability of the earth to continue to sustain human activities and lifestyles.
What are the planetary boundaries?
The Planetary Boundaries are a framework of nine critical earth processes, originally developed in 2008-9 by Johan Rockström and Will Steffen at the Stockholm Resilience Centre, to help quantify and maintain a ‘safe operating space’ for humanity. Increasingly the impact of human activities on these boundaries are leading to the threat of reaching a number of tipping points which, if exceeded, may tip the earth systems into a potentially irreversible state, with enormous implications for humans’ ability to thrive and survive.

Planetary Boundaries as a catalyst for change
I use the Planetary Boundaries framework to catalyse leadership capacity for sustainability. I've used it to engage hundreds of leaders with nature, climate and the global context in which they are required to operate. This supports the integration of organisation nature frameworks with other strategic priorities.
